Two hundred dollars is furniture and glassware. A bar cart worth owning, or six crystal glasses that survive a dishwasher. The jump from a hundred dollars buys capacity, durability and finish — not a better drink, which is worth knowing deliberately rather than discovering later.
The bar cart number nobody publishes
If you buy a cart, one specification matters more than every other combined, and most listings do not include it: the rated shelf load.
Here is why it decides the purchase. A full 750 ml spirit bottle weighs about 2.8 lb — 750 ml at roughly 0.94 g/ml is about 705 g of liquid (1.55 lb), plus a glass bottle of 500–600 g (about 1.2 lb). Divide a published shelf rating by that and the market splits in two:

Both of those are real, currently sold, well-reviewed carts. We run this arithmetic on every cart we recommend, and a maker that publishes no rating at all has told you something too — not that the cart is weak, but that you cannot check.
Or buy the glassware that survives the household
The other honest use of this budget. Crystal is thinner, clearer and rings when tapped, and it chips. Ordinary soda-lime glass is heavier and far more durable. Tritan sits between them: a titanium-reinforced crystal published as break, chip and scratch resistant, and dishwasher safe.
That combination changes the value arithmetic. Six glasses that survive daily use and a dishwasher cover a dinner party in one purchase, where two-glass conventional-crystal sets need three boxes for the same coverage and are more fragile in the meantime.
One caveat we will not skip: at 11.6 oz, a large coupe is a big bowl for a three ounce cocktail, and a wide surface warms a drink faster. If the recipient mostly drinks one martini at a time, a smaller bowl is better and cheaper.
Cart or glasses?
A cart if they have somewhere to put it and enough bottles to fill it. It is the only gift on this site that is furniture, which means it has to suit the room — and a cart with three bottles on it looks unfinished rather than minimal.
Glasses if they do not. Glassware is used immediately, cannot really be over-bought, and does not require a conversation about where it will live.
If the room is small, do not assume a cart is out. Narrow carts are a genuine category rather than a compromise, and the good ones trade width for a third tier without cutting the load rating. Carts for small spaces.
The thing to add either way
A cart with no ice on it sends the host to the kitchen mid-round, which is the single most common gap in a home bar setup. A double-walled bucket with a lid solves it, and the double wall is the specification that matters — a single-wall bucket sweats a ring onto the furniture and the ice is water in an hour.
